Lake Petron

Although Lake Petron cannot be compared with the size of Lake Vegoritis, everybody would agree that they are of equal beauty. Lake Petron has an area of 12 sq.km and a depth of 3.5m. There is, also, an underwater connection of this lake with the lake Chimaditis, although they are 20 km apart. Over 90 species of birds can be found here, among them the lesser white-fronted goose and the pygmy cormorant. The latter has only three rookeries in Greece and one of them is in this area. Needless to say, Lake Petron is one of the favourite lakes of birdwatchers. There is only one observatory, which is located at a distance of 3km from Aghios Panteleimonas.

In 1015-1016, Gavril Radomir, successor of the Bulgarian Tsar Samuel, was killed by his cousin (while hunting). Although there aren't any activities available in Lake Petron at present , a velodrome is constructed (a part of it is already available to the public).
